 SNOWMOBILE TRIPS

On Monday, February 18th, Randy Winkeljohn, Curt Rieffe, Jeff & Jane Snellenberger and Gene Leis left from St. Ignace to loop up thru Copper harbor and back. Well, I'm here to tell you the trip was awesome.
Sleds - 04 800 Doo Renegade, 05 Poo 900 Fusion, 05 Doo 600 SDI Renegade, 07 Arctic Cat Jag, 08 Yamaha Apex LTX
We left from St. Ignace Monday morning about 8:30. Took the west loop up to Trout Lake to McGowan's for breakfast. Then we went up and caught Dick Rd and ran north to pick up the trail to Paradise. Went thru Paradise and stopped at Rainbow Lodge for a bowl of soup. Then on past Garnd Marais to Munising. Curt (Griz) ran out of gas by Shingleton and Randy towed him in. Spent that nite at the Super 8 in Munising. Trails for the most part were great except just north of Paradise (there was actually a stump in the trail on a curve). 220 miles.
Left Tuesday morn. for Houghton. Took trail 8 past Marquette thru Little Lake, Ishpeming and on towards Baraga. Found out the trail from Baraga to Chassel was closed for logging. So we had to head south towards Sidnaw and up thru Alston (sp) on to Twin Lakes and up to Houghton. More fantastic trails. 210 miles. Checked into the Super 8 in Houghton.

Left Wednesday morn. for a loop thru Copper Harbor. Took the trail around the eastern side and ended up on the Gay Trail (it sucked). Once off that trail we headed on past Copper Harbor to the tip of the Keeweenaw. Then back to the Mariner in Copper Harbor for a great lunch. Then we headed up Brockway Mt. (unbelievable view) and on around the west side of the peninsula and back to Houghton. 165 miles.

Got up Thur. morn. and had to put a new battery in Randy's SDI ($34). Headed back to Munising. Trail to Baraga was still closed. So we headed south to Twin Lakes again. Griz wanted to see the trussel bridges on that trail south of Twin Lakes so we said it's not that much farther to Bruces Crossing and over. (duh) Took that trail on around towards Lanse. Then we said "the Big Bay Loop doesn't look that much farther (duh again)(it's only about 1/2" on paper). Took that loop over to Big Bay and Marquette. It was a beautiful trail. All great trails to this point. Took the RR grade from Marquette thru Au traine, what a POS. Kicked our butts at the end of the day. Went to the Buckhorn south of Munising for supper. Got to the Super 8 in Wetmore about 9:30. 325 miles.

Left Thur. morn for St. Ignace. Went south thru Big Springs and Manistique and on across trail 2. What a great trail and a beautiful day. Stopped at Engadine for a beer. Then on thru Naubinway and into Cut River. Then to Moran for a great dinner and a few celebratory barley pops. Then back to St. Ignace. 210 miles
1130 total miles - GPS

A great trip with great friends,  95% of the trails were outstanding.
